Mike Young is 24-years-old, living in Kingston, ON, born and raised in Ottawa. As a student leader at Queen's University, his love for speaking and facilitating emerged and has grown ever since. Mike has an in-depth understanding of post-secondary education in Ontario, and as a past member of the Queen's Board of Trustees, he's uniquely positioned with the knowledge of how to balance corporate governance & fiduciary responsibility with the need to be intersectional, anti-oppressive, and committed to social justice, all while remaining resolutely grounded in human positionally & experience. It's not easy, but he loves the challenge and is eager to keep learning and sharing his experiences.
Mike served as the 34th Rector of Queen's University, and was lucky enough to be able to connect with so many incredible people within that role. Mike has spoken at 50+ functions as a keynote or panelist over the past 3 years, and worked with incredible teams as a facilitator for the Positive Space and Sexual Violence Bystander Intervention Training programs, respectively, at Queen's. Today, he continues working on educational programming for the Human Rights and Equity Offices at Queen's.
Mike has a passion for helping folks realize their potential, leading important discussions about equity/human rights, and for helping himself and those he works with better understand how to navigate privilege when doing anti-oppressive work. He believes in the power of honesty, sharing, and laughter, and his work as a public speaker and facilitator strives to be relatable and human above all else.
He is forever interested in human growth, habit building, and positive psychology, and mental health and wellness is core to everything he does. Mike brings an excited and positive attitude to everything that he does, is eager to find new challenges to tackle, and feels privileged to learn from you.
